Fishing
Breaks
Old Mill House Bed &
Breakfast boasts one mile of
fishing rights on the beautiful
River Monnow and is the place to
come for your fishing holiday or
short fishing break. Its one
mile of river is set amongst 400
acres of rolling hills and Welsh
farmland. The fishery offers
coarse and fly fishing and the
chance to catch grayling, chub,
trout and (since autumn 2008)
salmon.
This
part of the River Monnow was a
popular fishing retreat back in
the 1950s, when the manor house
ran as a Fishing and Country
Club. It has not been available
to the public to fish for
decades until 2006 when new
owners allowed access again.
With a good mixture of
riffles and pools, the Monnow
has earned its reputation as one
of Wales' best for trout fly
fishing, especially for dry fly
fishing in May and June, with
the spectacular mayfly hatches.
The lower Monnow, with its
slower and deeper sections, also
offers a wide range of coarse
species including chub and
grayling.
